Program Information
For Kids Only located at the Bates Elementary School in Salem is
the only For Kids Only program located in the Salem Public
School District. Fortunate to have their own space within the
school, this program offers a large classroom with their own
computers, small library section, creative play area and many
other on site games and tools to provide a purposeful and fun
program! For Kids Only at the Bates strives to compliment the
school's focus on arts and education through providing a number
of performing arts programming and creative art projects. This
program also incorporates ongoing literacy development through
daily read alouds, follow up discussions, and end of unit
projects. Through the use of many great spaces and tools For
Kids Only at the Bates seeks to provide a well-rounded after
school program that strengthens the students both academically
and socially.
Site Coordinator: Lauren Baker
Lauren Baker, site coordinator of For Kids Only at the Bates
Elementary School, graduated in 2009 from Gordon College with a
BA in Early Childhood Education and Psychology. She received
her state of MA teaching liscense but chose a different path to
Afterschool education post graduation. Lauren hopes to return
to school to earn a Master's in Social Work. Lauren has a
passion for children and families and seeks to provide a
quality program to serve families in the Salem community. Her
dedication to providing an exemplary role model for the children
in her program motivates her to create a healthy, safe
community for each student. It is Lauren's belief that each
student should be valued as an individual and strives to help
each student to recognize their individual strengths and
abilities through programming that encourages self discovery.
Lauren looks forward to strengthening For Kids Only at the Bates
Elementary School and becoming an even more exciting place for
the students to come to everyday after school.
