FKO AfterSchool opens with ribbon-cutting at Youth In Motion

Friday, April 29, 2016 - Advocate News - For Kids Only Afterschool (FKO) recently held the grand opening and ribbon-cutting of their new facility, Youth In Motion on Broadway, providing a safe space for area children to work, play and unwind. YOUTH IN MOTION HOLDS GRAND OPENING

Revere Journal, April 27, 2016 - Exactly one year after breaking ground in the construction of an 8,000 square- foot facility, the For Kids Only Afterschool (FKO) program celebrated the grand opening of its Youth in Motion project with a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 22. This state-of- the-art building is a nurturing space for children to develop healthy lifestyles, confidence, and team working skills. “We want the best for our children,” said Deborah Kneeland Keegan, executive director. “Children need time and space to unwind, move, learn strategies on self-regulation, and connect with others.” The $2.8 million development will provide year-round, safe and affordable after school care for up to 140 school-age children. FOR KIDS ONLY AFTERSCHOOL PEABODY PROGRAMS REINSTATED

In response to a June 17th decision by the Peabody School Committee, For Kids Only Afterschool (FKO) is excited to continue serving Peabody families for the upcoming 2015/2016 school year and summer. “We are excited to move forward,” said Deborah Kneeland Keegan, FKO Executive Director, “and continue into our 10th year with the Peabody Public Schools.” FKO operates their Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) licensed programs in six Peabody schools including the Brown, Burke, Carroll, Center, McCarthy and Welch. A district director, six full-time site directors and a host of out-of-school time educators, inclusion specialists, Peabody public school teachers and community partners currently support the program, which serves over 300 children, including those with special needs. Read more > *** PEABODY – June 4, 2015 -- For Kids Only Afterschool (FKO), in response to a May 26th decision by the Peabody School Committee, recently informed Peabody families that they will no longer be operating in the Peabody Public Schools effective beginning the 2015-2016 school year. “We are disappointed with the decision of the Peabody School Committee,” said Deborah Kneeland Keegan, FKO Executive Director. “For Kids Only Afterschool is proud of our high quality programming that encompasses the social, emotional and academic health of children during the out-of-school time hours.” For the last nine years, FKO has operated their Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) licensed programs in six Peabody schools including the Brown, Burke, Carroll, Center, McCarthy and Welch. FKO Recognizes World Autism Awareness Day Thursday

Nonprofit to light blue lights to promote autism awareness Salem, MA – On Thursday, April 2nd, For Kids Only Afterschool will observe World Autism Awareness Day by participating in the annual ‘Light It Up Blue’ campaign and lighting up the organization’s headquarters on Essex Street in Salem with blue lights. “For Kids Only Afterschool decided to light up our business front on Essex Street the color blue as part of World Autism Awareness Day and reached out to the Salem Chamber of Commerce and the Mayor’s Office to encourage other Salem businesses to do the same,” said Deborah Kneeland Keegan, Executive Director of For Kids Only, a non-profit, out of school time provider that serves Salem families. “Light It Up Blue is a campaign to honor of people with autism worldwide. At FKO, we see the effects of autism first hand and know how important it is to educate people.” Autism Speaks, the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization, celebrates Light It Up Blue along with the international autism community, in commemoration of the United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day. The campaign encourages buildings and landmarks across the world to turn their lights blue on April 2nd to promote autism awareness. “Autism affects over 3 million individuals in the U.S. and tens of millions worldwide,” said Kneeland Keegan. “FKO is proud to help raise autism awareness by participating in the ‘Light It Up Blue’ campaign."

For Kids Only Afterschool to Offer Summer Learning Program at Bates School

SALEM - June 20, 2014 - Executive Director Deborah Kneeland Keegan is excited to announce For Kids Only Afterschool (FKO) will continue to serve Salem families looking for quality summertime learning, field trips, and interactive fun. FKO will offer full day care (7am to 6pm) to all Salem children, entering Kindergarten through 8th grade, at the Bates School from June 30th to August 15th. Over the past eight years, FKO has collaborated with Salem Public Schools to provide quality out-of-school time programming to local children and families. During the summer months FKO continues the same high quality enrichment activities in English Language Arts, Math and 21st Century skill building, while also incorporating weekly field trips and special events. For Kids Only Afterschool receives major Cummings Foundation grant

SALEM - June 16, 2014 – For Kids Only Afterschool has been selected as one of 100 local nonprofits to receive grants of $100,000 each through Cummings Foundation’s $100K for 100 program. FKO was chosen from more than 430 applicants during a very competitive review process. The Grant will support FKO’s Count Me In! Initiative, throughout FKO’s 17 program sites across the north shore of Boston. The funding allows FKO to hire Inclusion Specialists, certified teachers who are highly trained in Special Education, and purchase accommodating materials and equipment to help children fully participate in all aspects of FKO’s after school programming.
